Does anyone recommend restaurants/hotels to work at in Long Beach, CA?
I'm moving to Long Beach and I have alot of cooking experience. I just graduated from a Hospitality/culinary program and I wanted to know if anyone knew of any cool places to apply. I've had alot of experience and I'm a ball of energy:) Also, does anyone know if there is any demand for personal chef's around Long Beach?

My advice is to get a job first, THEN move to an area to reduce your commute. It won't help to work in Long Beach if you have a job in Chatsworth. With the economy in its present state, you're going to have a very difficult time finding a position. People are eating out WAY less, and restaurant employees are getting laid off or getting their hours cut back. According to what I see on TV, it looks like Gordon Ramsey is hiring... but the interview process is h3ll, from what I see.

Because of the recession the restaurant/hospitality business is hurting pretty bad in So Cal. In Long Beach we like our dive bars and restaurants that have been around for 50+ years. There are some nice places though and they aren't chain restaurants. Try Tracht's at the Renaissance Hotel. Suzanne Tracht is the executive chef and she also has another popular restaurant in LA called Jar. Lasher's and Christy's Ristorante are both nice, upscale restaurants in my neighborhood. They've both been in business for over 10 years, which is good in that biz. At Last Cafe is also worth looking into. The place is new and very popular since they serve great food at a good price. Michaels on Naples is an upscale restaurant with a modern atmosphere and good food. Nico's, Kelly's and Fora are all within a block of Michaels and they also offer an upscale and romantic experience. Naples is an upscale neighborhood in LB. Utopia is in the funky East Village Arts District close to downtown. They specialize in California cuisine and the restaurant is in a cool refurbished old building. 555 East is an old school fine dining steak house. I'm sure there are some places I'm forgetting about. I love to cook and was just thinking of the places that might offer you a good cooking experience. I'm not sure about the personal chef need here. Good luck to you.
